Blazing, shredded licks and runs abound in Slovak guitarist Peter Emmer's self-titled instrumental rock CD. Capable of blending fusion lines and other exotica into his solos, Emmer has a softer side as well, as tracks such as "Promised Land" and "Euthanasia" demonstrate. But the ear-grabbers will be up tempo numbers such as "Just Funk" and "Passion", with their furious legato burn and explosive technical brilliance. A track such as "Roxana" displays his melodic sense and complex yet appealing phrasing, before stunning with more intense lines. Peter Emmer is a great introduction to the style and guitar work of this talented six-stringer coming out of the Slovak Republic.
