Living Village Music series is a competition sponsored by Dance House Guild every year. In 2009 seventy-three application has arrived till the deadline October 31. This collection presenting a juried selection of 19 records not previously released on CD.

"When we hear the word prímás, a picture of a violinist dressed in a blue or red waistcoat playing in the middle of a (Hungarian) restaurant usually forms in our mind's eye.
However, musical history informs us that it was also cimbalom players who very often took the leading role in a band as well. With regard to Prímás Parade - without dismissing the traditional view mentioned above, we are reaching back to the original meaning of the word, according to which 'primus' means "first", or "the one who is in the lead". Its derivative 'primarius' means "the one who is among the first ones" or "respected", and in musical terms it definitely refers "the first violinist of a string quartet".
It is thanks to Róbert Lakatos that this production could come into existence. He invited musicians to participate who have not only been band leaders for a long time, but who also found a common starting point in folk music, which each one of them arranges in their own particular style. Béla Radics, whose life knew a tragic end, is one of the most important representative of the early Hungarian rock history. His guitar technique, composer skills are still a legend. He was the one who introduced and made known to the Hungarian beat-generation the greatest blues musicians like: Jimi Hendrix, Cream.... He was member of the Sakk-matt, Sankó, Atlantisz, Pannónia, Taurus EX-T, Tűzkerék bands. The recordings of the memorial concert were done on 2001 February 1, in the Petőfi Hall. From a spiritual, cultural and philosophical point of view, wine has special significance in human history. We can list artist and philosophers from ancient times to the present who have been inspired by it and embarked upon its praise.
In his work entitled „The Philosophy of Wine” (A Bor filozófiája) the Hungarian writer Béla Hamvas declares that wine is a spiritual essence, which embodies order and harmony. Its consumption raises a man to a state of consciousness above and beyond the everyday. According to him, wine people are different from people that drink pálinka (a strong fruit brandy) - in their thoughts, emotions, their whole life style and even in their movements. Wine people are like Muses for whom drinking is a spiritual act; ritual. Hungarians are also a Muse-like people. For Hungarians and the other peoples that live amongst them, wine holds a place of honor

After crossing Királyhágó Pass in Transylvania, the traveller coming from Hungary will soon find himself in the Kalotaszeg region. It is typically hilly Transylvanian countryside, in the shadow of the Western Carpathians. Today the Calvinist, „Hungarian” Gypsy „Csipás” family still live in this quarter. The first famous member of this family was ’left handed’ Ferenc Varga „Csipás”. In the 1970’s, he played in the Hungarian film entitled ’Kalotaszegi madonna’ and he could read music. His sons became musicians as well and since the Gypsies have traditionally served the musical needs of everyone in this region, they carried on after their father. Bánffyhunyad’s location as a crossroads was advantageous for the family: they played to the universal satisfaction of all in th Kalotaszeg region – for Hungarians, Romanians, Gypsies alike. An immense knowledge accumulated in the head and heart peaked in the artistry of Ferenc Varga „Csipás”, jr. Perhaps it is strange to speak of artistry in the contex of folklore, but I don’t know of anywhere else in Transylvania, or in Kalotaszeg, that has such a classically balanced instrumental folk music where such careful attention is paid to reformance style, violin tone and proportion, and is accompained by an eternaly artistic synthesis of a personal, virtuose sound and community knowledge. Amongst Hungarian folk musicians, the name „Csipás” is intertwined with Kalotaszeg and has become legendary, while the music played by him has become compulsory material to be learned by musicians of the Hungarian dance house movement. - László Kelemen

Is a very special flute used only by herdsmen in Baranya, Somogy and Zala counties of Hungary’s ’South-Transdanubia’. Its five holes, half moon shaped reed, 80-100 cm and the characteristic so-called ’neutral scale’ make it unique in the large family of flutes. Though the last traditional masters of this instrument are no longer alive, but thanks to group Egyszólam this musical tradition comes to life again.

24 rare and valuable recordings selected by Róbert Kerényi from the songs and instrumental music of the Moldavian Csángós. The archaic texts are unique evidence of the assimilated ethnicity being Hungarian. The compilation shows only a part of the diverse dances. In a wild and at times lyrical instrumentation with flute, violin, koboz, tilinka and accordion. The fine-quality recordings are not only documentaries but they also give real musical experiences.
