The Erdőfű Folk Chamber Orchestra was formed from the collaboration of dance house musicians operating in Hungary.

The members of Erdőfű are all committed followers of the authentic performance of the folk music tradition of the Carpathian Basin, both in dance halls and at concert venues. The aim of the initiative, which can also be considered a music workshop, is to provide a comprehensive picture of the diversity of string folk music of the Hungarian-inhabited areas and the ethnicities living with us, keeping in mind the specifics of the given region or village. The “ars poitica” of the music association requires in-depth professional knowledge and specific instrumental knowledge of the musical traditions of a region, so it is important that the members of Erdőfű have sufficient experience and knowledge in playing instrumental folk music. Their performance provides an opportunity for the audience to experience the unique sound of folk music in the Carpathian Basin in terms of various instrumental line-ups and specific playing modes.
