Nembánomból vanabánom - Freefolk 2 folk world music

Enlarge this picture! Since their first album titled „Hetric Free Folk”, the band members have changed many times. The new musicians in Hétrét are Ilka Kása (fiddle), Miklós Óvári (guitar), László Szantner (bass), Tamás Lőrincz and Igor Radics (percussion), so the band’s sound moved into a more dinamic direction. The band still wants to keep and develop the unique „hetric” sound, which comes not only from the original way of arrangement, but from the mixing of folk elements with own musical intuitions, and from the use of stronger vocals. You can find many folk song arrangements as usual (Finnish, Irish, Moldvian, Serbian and Gypsy). New elements are the church music tunes (Psalm no.23., church songs from the 16th Century), and certainly there’re own compositions too. The words are about the big questions of life – birth, death, love, devotion, belief in God -, but the album is still very lively.

Hetric Free Folk folk world music

Enlarge this picture! The group Hétrét is based in South-western Hungary. This corner of the country has always been a melting pot of different cultures and traditions. A meeting point of three countries: Hungary, Austria and Slovenia, the region is home to various nationalities and thus to a unique variety of musical traditions. Originally a Traditional Irish music group, Hétrét expanded their repertoire to combine folk traditions from the local regions: Hungary, the Balkans as well as Transylvania and Moldavia. The music is basically acoustic and one can hear a variety of instruments from the celtic harp and tin whistles to the South-American charango.
