The band ColorStar was established in 1996 by four Budapest youths who had been playing music together for some time. It moved in the direction of "scientific educational dance music" as its goal was to combine instrumental and vocal music, acoustic and electronic tunes as well as live- and mechanical music so that the final result should be a kind of music that could not be classified in any existing music categories but would represent the features of a great number of styles.

Budapest Amadeus Choir
"This is a great band playing music that will continue to grow on you after a few listens."
Richard Stockwell, Cranium Music, New-Zealand
"More superb Hungarian psychedelia. This is one of the most totally awesome releases we've heard in a long while, with all manner of trippy effects mixed in with Middle Eastern/Eastern European styled space rock and world music. Dare we say it but this is better than The Ozrics! The acid must be better in Hungary than it is here!"
Freak Emporium, United Kingdom
"It has been the most promising band of progressive electronic rock (or what) for years... it is a unique and well-proportioned medley of traditional music and the latest electronic trends. They combine styles with an inherent openness and playfulness ranging from rolling drum 'n' bass (live!) via lyricism to dub and ambient made exotic by mixing in some world music as well... They invite us on a pleasant and easy-flowing but highly psychedelic trip to travel far and wide and to experience an upsetting and relaxing extasy of feeling and music."
Szörnyi Kriszta, Trafik Minizin
"Their music based on energic-enthusiastic structures finished to perfection can best succeed on stage. As the audience is an organic part of it, the real feeling is created at the concerts."

The main inspiration to create their own music style had come from the discovery of new technical instruments (midi and sequencer programmes). Their music is mentioned together with other psych/alter groups as Korai Öröm and Ozric Tentacles.

The group ColorStar had its first concert in 1996. By that time, the members of the group had been playing together for five years in earlier, well-known rock formations. The main inspiration to change their name and music style had come from the discovery of new technical instruments (midi and sequencer programmes) and the groups of the Budapest acid-rock (Másfél, Korai Öröm) which had gained popularity by that time. Their name, ColorStar has several meanings. On the one hand, it is a reference by the musicians to their approach to television as a means of opinion shaping and mind modification – Color Star was the brand name of a Hungarian made television set (banned since), which sometimes simply exploded while the family had their intimate moments of movie watching. On the other hand, it is an expression of the group’s intention to provide mankind with an ideal accompaniment to the global movie usually defined as “life". (“....XPLODE YOUR TV ‘N’ MAKE YOUR OWN MOVIE...")
The products of the period since include an LP and a maxi CD as well as successful performances at different festivals, such as Pepsi Island, Hysteria 2000, Tilos Radio Party, EuroConnections, Fęte de la Musique, Mezőtúri Wanted Festival, VOLT Festival concerts in Budapest and in the country and tours abroad (France, Germany, Belgium, Turkey and Slovenia). The members of the group are acknowledged project and studio musicians, they compose music for films and theatre.
András Keleti - vocal, guitar, synths, violin, jew’s harp, percussion
Péter Szalay - guitar, zyther-guitar
Zoltán Farkas - drums
István Balahoczky - bass, synths, sitar-guitar, violin, percussion
Featuring:
Réka Koltay - violin
Barnabás Hidasi - piano

’COLORSTAR’ was the name of the first Hungarian brand of colour TV during the communist era. This debut album is a very strong, guitar based psychedelic, alternative, progressive album. Ozric Tentacle is the closest band to the music genre.
