Holy Lamb
Beneath the Skin progressive

Enlarge this picture! ‘Beneath the Skin’is the latest album from Latvia’s progressive rock band HOLY LAMB, and it tells a slightly unconventional story about music. This time around, the band chose to integrate various shades of rock and roll into their music. The result is as adventurous as it could possibly get. A beautiful multiple vocal section on ‘The Plan That Failed’ is followed by a Madness-like rock n’roll passage which transcends into a pro-symphonic guitar duo. Next comes the radio-friendly ‘Makhtartam & the Low Brotherhood’ with a massive Low Chorus at the end. Art-rock afficionados are in for some real treat when they arrive at the mighty ‘Conquest’ and the chamber-prog song ‘Wear It in the Morning’. The two tracks are separated by the totally undescribable ‘Audiodurg’ and the almost all-acoustic ‘Stars Fell on Fertile Lands’. Sandwiched between two parts of the title track, there is ‘The Meeting of the Majorminors’, probably the only neo-prog tune on the album. The album rounds up with ‘The End: Headturn’s Release’ which gets across the clearly positive message that ‘MUSIC will reign’ regardless of any obstacles.
On ‘Beneath the Skin’, the five core members of the band have joined forces with a number of guest singers and a flautist to expand the sound of HOLY LAMB to a maximum. This has been possible owing only to a very special gift that they all share: the ability to speak the universal tongue of MUSIC.
