Life
(ÉLET)
world music

Enlarge this picture! Palya Bea is one of the defining figures of the Hungarian music scene, an acclaimed songwriter, singer, performer and writer. Her mother tongue is Hungarian folk music, but her art was also greatly influenced by the music of the Gypsy, Bulgarian, Sephardic and Indian peoples. Bea mostly sings her own songs, in which a touchingly personal world unfolds before us. Eleven solo records show the process of playing with tradition and modern themes - thus building a new one on the ground of tradition - and the way she treads herself into songs on an inner path. Her lyrics are outspoken, painfully honest, or just humorous. And with her beautiful voice, suggestive performance, and strong stage phenomenon, she immediately captivates her audience.

The dominant player of the Hungarian world music scene recorded the material in the beginning of March 2020, and in connection with its creation she recalled: “On a dancer’s weekend, I heard a music in which Bulgarian women sang with wonderful pulsation. It was an incredible cleansing for me. Later, I started playing with rhythms and this social, life-affirming music that coordinated family members and made me move. ”

The album LIFE is the tenth CD from Bea PALYA.

The singer said she experienced a difficult period after her divorce a few years ago, but then became a fuller, more appreciative, more honest being and the evaluation of life became a central theme for her. She wanted to write songs about this new, more mature joy.

Jenő Lisztes (cimbalom)

Woman 2

world music

Enlarge this picture! Continuing the journey started by the highly successful Woman album released two years ago, Palya Bea continues the tradition she created herself with her new album.

She sings about all of us while dissecting her own questions; she asks everyone while asking herself the most important questions. As a female songwriter, she sings about human themes that affect us all; women, men, people. In the two years since the release of the previous album, there has been an increase in success, an increase in joy, and an increase in singing spirit.

world music

Enlarge this picture! Palya Bea is a singer, songwriter, performer and writer. He grew up on Hungarian, Gypsy and Bulgarian folk music, later she also learned about the music of other peoples (Sephardic music, Indian music). He mostly sings his own songs, in which a touchingly personal world unfolds before us. In his solo records, you can trace the process of playing with tradition and modern themes, and the way you go about knitting yourself on songs on an inner path. In October 2012, she gave birth to a little girl named Lili. Motherhood marks the beginning of a new phase in Bea’s life, accompanied by new songs and new musicians, a new band. Bea writes of this period:
“There were fourteen new songs, there was a new band. Because I also had a new life. My little girl was born, and now I am walking carefully on this path, which at the same time belongs to my mother, lover, singer-songwriter… and songs have become my road signs, helping me find out who I am in this new stage. The musical language that flies these songs is born by constantly traveling between East and West. It includes Hungarian, Bulgarian, Gypsy, Jewish musical traditions, Indian and African listening experiences, but it also includes European medieval music, jazz and other improvised music, as well as what I learned from great songwriting personalities. My fellow musicians also bring their own personal musical traditions. We experiment, we beat our chests, we sing in several voices, we talk, we whisper, we shout, we reach for an instrument again, we play, we laugh, we make ourselves into a band. During the joint music, songs like I Call You were born, in which I bring all women together to help write a new and easier life story, Without Words about Mother-Daughter Fusion Love, or The Human Animal, which tells female secrets. But there have also been hits like the Free, where there is no trace of the old bitterness, nothing but soaring. ”

A CD is an endless, colorful repository of natural, individual and primarily human Sound, a jungle of sounds. On the album we hear basically Hungarian folk songs and our own songs, but we can also find the influence of gypsy, Bulgarian and other music in the musical solutions. Bea goes back to folk traditions and the diverse and infinitely rich musical and personal heritage he drew from before. In addition to the audio CD, there is also a CD-ROM containing personal family and childhood photographs, a birth song werkfilm, songs in English and other delicacies. Adieu Les Complexes world music

Enlarge this picture! Adieu les complexes - sings in one of Boris Vian's songs.
I liked that. It’s in French, but everyone understands it. Universal.
The only key to the creation is to throw out the barriers of “who thinks what”. From the heart, freely, wildly, without complexes.
I want my music not to be listened to as exotic, but as it is.
I wrote the lyrics to my own or Hungarian, Jewish, Gypsy, Bulgarian melodies, and there are also two English songs. The sound often evokes folk music worlds, but I appropriately appropriated these beautiful music because the personal aspect of this work is paramount. I sing, what is with me, love, loneliness, travel, just always changing form. I pass it on because only this passing makes sense. ”- Palya Bea
